BIOGEOGENIC OBJECT

A speculative fiction and installation exploring the increasingly blurred material boundaries between geology, biology, technology.

An excavated object of unknown origins appears to be comprised of geological matter and yet it appears ‘alive’ or ‘programmed’ with organic-digital content. Is this a relic of an evolved synthetic biology experiment or perhaps a fragment of geoengineering? Is it techno-grotesque or a kind of sublime? Is this the moment organic life emerged from inorganic life?

This piece was in part inspired by my readings of ecology writer Tim Morton and his notions of the original Inter(connected-ness)-Of-Things.

This project was first exhibited as part of Appetite Group Show at Apiary Studios, Hackney.
