SKETCHBOOK

A PROGRAMMED IM/MATERIAL REALITY

‘REALITY’ IS A SOCIAL CONSTRUCT.

A COLLECTIVE, AGREED HEAD-NODDING THAT THIS IS ‘JUST SO’.

ARE WE MOVING INTO AN AGE OF NON-SOCIAL, NON-SHARED

EXPERIENCE. NO COLLECTIVE MEMORY. REALITY IN SILO?

“THE GEOGRAPHER YI-FU TUAN STRESSED THE ROLE OF THE SENSES

IN HIS EARLIER WORK, PROPOSING THAT ‘AN OBJECT OR PLACE

ACHIEVES CONCRETE REALITY WHEN OUR EXPERIENCE OF IT IS

TOTAL, THAT IS THROUGH ALL THE SENSES AS WELL AS THE ACTIVE

AND REFLECTIVE MIND’.

INTERESTING, SO THAT WOULD SUGGEST PIXEL-REALITIES WILL

NEVER FEEL TRULY REAL UNLESS THE EXPERIENCE ACTIVATES

ANOTHER SENSORY MODALITY?

WILL TOUCH BECOME A PREMIUM IN THE NEW AGE? WHAT ABOUT

SCENT? EXTERNAL ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS THAT INTERACT WITH

OUR BODIES. GROUNDING, EARTHING EXPERIENCES. A ‘SENSORY

PREMIUM’.

CAN WE IMAGINE OUR OWN REALITIES AND MAKE IT SO? WHAT DOES

IT MEAN TO ‘IMAGINE’? IMAGE-IN.

“EVERY OBJECT POSSESSES INFINITE REALITIES AS WE PERCEIVE

IT IN UNIQUE WAYS - ASSOCIATIONS, MEMORIES, BIASES AND OF

COURSE, PSYCHOLOGIES.” OLAFUR ELIASSON, SURROUNDINGS

SURROUNDED

HUMANS AS THE THIRD MATERIAL - HOW WILL PEOPLE INTERACT WITH

THE ART OR SPACE CAN FORM PART OF THE ARTWORK ITSELF?
