Installation + Workshop: Collage / Commons

I’m proud to present not one but two projects for the London Festival of Architecture in response to the 2023 festival theme, “In Common”, this time right in my neighbourhood of Colindale!

Colindale, North West London, is experiencing an exciting transformation - but how do we find common ground amongst communities from different backgrounds and lifeways?; how can we find points of connection amongst difference?; what might glue us together as a neighbourhood? Looking to a nature as a way of connecting us together across borough-boundaries and civic borders Collage / Commons is a deconstructed map of the Barnet Plateau, the geographic name for the area of London that spans the civic boroughs of Barnet, Brent, Harrow, Ealing and Hillingdon. It zooms-in and maps the fleshy textures of plants, waters, soils and fungi highlighting connection, community and commonality with the land and the species we co-habit with.

The map is hosted in Colindale Library, itself a common space, which will also be the hub for a Walk / Workshop where we will use collage as a technique to create vibrant, collective artworks that reflect our shared experience of the ecology and will be featured across Barnet Libraries. With gratitude to the London Festival of Architecture Community Grant supported by Barnet Council and Barnet Libraries.
