Online Event: Breaking Spells, Spelling Worlds to Come @ Sirius Art Centre, 26 April 6-7.30pm

We have to remember that we are living under a spell, and this spell is destroying our worlds. It’s time to cast another spell, to call other worlds into being, to conjure other worlds within this world." - Natasha Myers, How to Grow Liveable Worlds: Ten Not-So-Easy Steps

Join me for an online workshop exercising our word-world making skills and the potential of the verb ‘to spell’ as a way of conjuring and manifesting new possibilities in a time and place where we are bewitched by concepts and logics that are not serving ecological justice. What happens if we shift talking about water not as a “resource” but a relation”? What happens if we refer to things as “ki” as rather than “it”? What if we seed our language with deep specificity so “aerit" refers to the goldenly sunlight filtering through leaves to decaying leaves on an October afternoon morning? During the session we will draft our own shared, intuitive glossary as a way of re-fleshing the world, listening on new frequencies and speak ourselves into new and personal relations. Words become part of our “seedbag” for not only surviving but flourishing alongside each other.

This is the third and final workshop of Fictional Reconfigurations (& Embodied Transformations) an online series organised by Georgia Perkins and Amanda Rice for SIRIUS Arts Centre, Cork posing practical alternatives to violent and inefficacious structures.
