Event: B|T|W||N THE L|AV|S: A Critical De/Compost Reading Group @ The Mayday Rooms, Wed 7 Sep 2.00pm-4.00pm

B|TW|N THE L|AV|S is a reading group series compiled by myself and PhD researcher Georgia Perkins engaging with processes of decay, decomposition, fermentation and rot to explore what might be possible, and what might emerge in states and times of “ruin”. We navigate these ideas from a range of texts spanning queerfeminst materialisms, indigenous cosmologies, more-than-human phenomenology and science fiction. Each session we will collectively activate methodological tools proposed by the authors in order to sensorially engage with their texts.

Join us for Wednesday 7th September in the kitchen of MayDay Rooms, Fleet Street as we tend to the deviant molecularity of fermentation through Stephanie Maroney’s rich article, “Sandor Katz and the Possibilities of a Queer Fermentive Praxis.” With Nina Lykke’s “Vibrant Death” still fizzing (discussed in part 1) we venture into the possibilities and praxis of the molecular body and fermentation as a very particular form of decomposition and world-making. We will digest “breakdown”, shape-shifting and im/purity as methods of resistance against normative, autonomous, bounded subjects and ferment as a kind of queer sociality and time-space. Once again we sensorially enact Maroney’s ‘queer fermentive praxis’ exploring methods of fermenting-with and digesting texts.
